Chinese Democracy Possibly Being Released, Possibly As Wal-Mart Exclusive

Because the Summer Olympics in Beijing have resparked our interest in all things Chinese, we're thrilled to bring you the latest non-news regarding Axl Rose's long-delayed, probably still-not-done opus: Billboard reports that the cornrowed, procrastinating Guns N' Roses front man is in talks to release Chinese Democracy exclusively through either Best Buy or Wal-Mart. According to a source, there are still ongoing negotiations to give the album traditional record-company distribution, but GNR's manager, Irving Azoff, is apparently a fan of retailer exclusives (he's partially responsible for that crappy recent Eagles album, which you never heard because it came only out at Wal-Mart).

If the record is available only through Wal-Mart, local Guns N' Roses fans hoping for a first-day copy will have to go all the way to Secaucus, New Jersey (there's currently no branch of the retailer in any of New York's five boroughs), which is nearly as inconvenient as having to wait fourteen years for its release.

Former Bush Aide Proves in Lawsuit That Almost None of Swing Vote Was His Idea

Photo: AP, Courtesy of Walt Disney Pictures

George W. Bush's former calendar keeper Bradley Blakeman has filed suit against everyone who's ever made a movie specifically Kevin Costner, the Walt Disney Co., Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group Inc., Touchstone Pictures, some screenwriters, and Kelsey Grammer alleging that election comedy Swing Vote is stolen from his original screenplay, Go November. The complaint, filed in a Long Island court, claims that Blakeman gave Go November to Grammer in 2006, and that Grammer agreed to play a Republican president in his project but instead played one in Swing Vote.

The lawsuit would have a little more credence if, say, everything about it wasn't totally laughable.

Blakeman claims that Disney stole elements of his movie's selling plan, such as the timing of the film's release. It's true that without Blakeman's help, Disney would deliver had no idea that they should release this film about a presidential election right before a presidential election. (We marvel if Blakeman's screenplay was an August Movie, excessively.) Other not-exactly-unique ideas from Go November that also appear in Swing Vote include "the use of real-life newscasters as actors playing themselves" and "the use of dirty tricks by both major political parties."

Hilariously, Swing Vote's only actual idea that a single buster winds up deciding the election does not appear in Go November, which alternatively focuses on a clump of swing voters. (And it's already been established that Swing Vote's actual idea did appear in 1939's The Great Man Votes.) But don't tell that to Blakeman! His lawsuit contains a great make-lemonade-from-lemons sentence when it concludes, "Essentially, except for the character names and the kinship developed 'tween the independent characters played by suspect Kevin Costner and his daughter" oh, and the entire concept of Swing Vote "the entire construct of Swing Vote was taken from the copyrighted work."

Basically, Disney seems guilty of nothing other than producing an election comedy featuring Kelsey Grammer a grievous criminal offense, to be sure, but not right of first publication infringement.

Formed in fountain 2004, exactly as the Libertines were origin to fall apart, Babyshambles became the main watercraft for Pete Doherty's poetic, disorderly rock candy when he was ousted from the Libertines for his increasing do drugs habit and quicksilver behavior. Babyshambles released their self-titled debut 7" in April 2004, and settled on the lineup of Doherty, guitarist Patrick Walden, bassist Drew McConnell, and drummer Gemma Clarke by that summer. That fall, things went relatively swimmingly for the set, with a sold-out U.K. term of enlistment and the button of a sec single, Killamangiro, on the Libertines' previous label, Rough Trade. But by December, the band had to strike down or hold shows because Doherty was unable to perform; one of these sudden cancellations sparked a orgy at the London Astoria. Clarke left the band former in 2005 and was replaced with fresh drummer Adam Ficek.

Scorn the band's on-going rumpus -- which included Doherty's get for allegedly assaulting and blackmailing documentarian Max Carlish (these charges were dropped that fountain) -- Babyshambles began work on their number one album. Teaming up with previous Libertines producer Mick Jones, the band worked on the album through the springtime and summer of 2005 and released the single Piece of ass Forever that August as a mystifier for the uncut. Depressed in Albion was released in the U.K. that fall and Babyshambles toured in livelihood of it, although the band canceled virtually as many gigs as it actually performed. Doherty's raving mad behaviour continued and his legion run-ins with the law, which included beingness held on misgiving of theft a machine and possession of course of instruction A drugs in other 2006 and being arrested trey times in one day, made Babyshambles' existence as touch-and-go as ever. Down in Albion was released in the U.S. that fountain. The Blinding EP arrived in fall 2006. Shotter's Nation, Babyshambles' kickoff uncut for EMI/Parlophone, arrived the following fall, self-praise more than dressed production and focussed songwriting.

The Ting Tings - The Ting Tings Struggled To Perform Live

Pop group THE TING TINGS were once a such a disastrous live act, they were forced to ask the audience how to play their instruments.

The British duo is now making a name for themselves after lending their track Shut Up And Let Me Go to a worldwide iPod campaign for Apple computers.

But drummer Jules De Martino insists they were not always so successful.

He says, "We did our first proper gig at the Birmingham Barfly (in England). It was where Katie (White, singer) picked up the guitar for the first time - but she couldn't get a sound out.

"She had to ask the audience what to do and they shouted back: 'Turn the amp on!'"
